Campaign Recap from Team Hertel

July 30, 2026 | Email Newsletter

Hello neighbor,

July is winding down, and August — as well as the August 4th Primary Election — will be here before we know it. While we don't have a primary opponent, our campaign hasn't taken a day off. We've been working hard to build momentum, connect with voters, and lay the groundwork for what will be a highly competitive general election.

Thanks to an incredible team of organizers and volunteers, we've been out knocking doors, making phone calls, and having countless conversations with voters across our lakeshore district about the issues that matter most to them. We’ve also been racking up endorsements and support from unions, advocacy organizations, and local leaders.

In this newsletter, catch up with some of the things we’ve been up to on the campaign trail and learn about opportunities to get involved with Team Hertel. We hope you'll join us as we keep building momentum in  the months ahead.

Sincerely,

  • As election season ramps up, so does our people-powered field operation! Every week, we’re starting to launch canvasses and phonebanks Monday-Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sign up here to get involved.

  • Endorsements are rolling in. From the AFL-CIO and SEIU to the Michigan Professional Firefighters Union and the League of Conservation Voters, we’re building a strong coalition that’s built of everyday, hard working people. Check out our full list of endorsements below.

  • Only have a minute to help lend a hand? Sign up to write postcards. It’s a quick, easy volunteer opportunity you can do from your kitchen table.

By the Numbers

The August Primary is right around the corner. And while our opponents are busy infighting and spewing nonsense, Team Hertel is staying focused on what matters most: meeting voters where they are and earning their support one conversation at a time.

Every day, we’re out on the doors, making phone calls, distributing yard signs, and getting our message out about the kind of future we're fighting to build for families across Michigan.

But once the primary is behind us, the real work begins.

That's why we need your help. If you want to be part of the grassroots momentum we're building on the ground, sign up to volunteer using the link below. Whether you have an hour to spare or want to get involved every week, there's a place for you on Team Hertel.

New Endorsements

Team Hertel is growing bigger and bigger every day as endorsements from labor and advocacy organizations start to roll in. From teachers and auto workers to police officers and firefighters, we’ve got a coalition that’s built of everyday, hardworking folks from across our community and our state.

A huge thank you to the following organizations for putting their faith and their support in our team and the vision we have to build a better, stronger Michigan:

  • United Auto Workers, Region 1

  • Michigan AFL-CIO

  • Michigan SEIU

  • Michigan Education Association

  • Michigan Building and Construction Trades

  • International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 58

  • Sheet Metal Workers, Local 80

  • Michigan Nurses Association

  • American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees

  • Michigan Professional Firefighters Union

  • Police Officers Association of Michigan

  • Michigan League of Conservation Voters

  • Michigan Realtors

As we continue to grow our support, there’s still one major endorsement I’m missing though: yours. This campaign has always been powered by people — not special interests — and by neighbors who believe in rolling up their sleeves, solving problems, and delivering real results. If you're with us, add your name and join Team Hertel today.

Volunteer Spotlight

This campaign is a true team effort, and I can honestly say there’s no team better than the volunteers powering Team Hertel. Every week, we have folks lending a hand, helping knock doors, make phone calls, write postcards, and so much more.

I want to take a moment to highlight a few of exceptional volunteers who’ve really made an impact this month:

  • Mona, who, despite the heat, still helped us knock nearly 100 doors in Clinton Township.

  • Jason has not only knocked doors with our team, but even jumped in to help during our recent campaign photoshoot.

  • And finally, I want to honor our dear friend, Ed Keelean, who recently passed away. Ed was a powerhouse community organizer — always working to recruit precinct delegates, turn out voters, and more. In fact, he was just at our first big canvass kickoff last month. We'll miss Ed not only as one of our campaign's most dedicated volunteers, but as a friend, a neighbor, and as someone whose commitment and hard work will leave a lasting difference in our community.

We can’t take a single vote for granted — not in a district where we only won by 404 votes in 2022. Every conversation matters, every door matters, and every voter we reach brings us one step closer to protecting the progress we've made together. That work takes resources.

DONATE NOW

Every donation — whether it’s $10 or $100 — helps us build momentum and fuel our ground game ahead of what will be another competitive and consequential election.
